Chapter - 7 DIVISION
Division: Division is repeated subtraction.
1.  Dividend: The number which is being divided is the dividend.
2.  Divisor: The number by which the dividend is divided is called the divisor.
3.  Quotient: The answer obtained upon dividing two numbers is called the quotient.
Properties of division:
1.  When any number is divided by itself, the quotient is 1.
(i) 6 ÷ 6 = 1
2.  When any number is divided by 1, the quotient is the number itself.
(i) 7 ÷ 1 = 7
3.  A number cannot be divided by 0.
(i) 9 ÷ 0 = not possible

WORD PROBLEM
Example 2: Mohan had Rs 961.00. He bought a watch for Rs 851.50. How much money does he have now?
Solution:
Amount of money Mohan had = 961.00
Amount of money spent = 851.50
Amount of money left = Rs 961.00 – Rs 851.50
=Rs 109.50
Therefore, Amount of money left with Mohan is Rs 109.50
Assignment: Do the following sums.
6. Vandana had Rs 95 to buy a math's book. The book cost only Rs 65. How many rupees were left with her?

7. I bought a radio for Rs 600.50, table fan for Rs 214.50 and a tube light for Rs 100.00.
How much did I spend?

8. After buying books and notebooks worth Rs 265.50, I still have Rs 155.00. How much money did I have at first?

9. I handed over a Rs 50 note to the shopkeeper and bought bread Rs 28.50. How much money was returned to me?

10. At a shop, Harsh shopped for Rs 685. He gave an exact amount of currency to the shopkeeper. Which currency notes and coins he could use?

WORD PROBLEM
1. Tom bought a pencil box for Rs 105.50, a pen for Rs 28.50 and a pencil for Rs. 2.00. How much did he spend in all?

Solution:

Cost of the pencil box = Rs 105.50

Cost of the pen = Rs 28.50

Cost of the pencil = Rs 2.00

Total cost = Rs 105.50 + Rs 28.50 + Rs 2.00

               = Rs 136.00

Therefore, Tom spent Rs 136.00 in all
