Ans. The poet first heard a Knock at the door of his house.

Ans. When the poet heard this sound, he listened, then opened the door and looked left and right for the source of the sound.

Ans. That night Partha heard a noise and turn on the light. He saw a large black cat at the bottom of the bed staring at him. The cat then told Partha that the kitten was its son. As Partha was taking good care of the kitten, the black cat allowed him to keep the kitten. In return, the black cat promised Partha to grant a wish every year.
Q.5. Why did the black cat grant Partha a wish every year?
Ans. The black cat granted Partha a wish every year because Partha allowed him to visit his son once a year. Moreover, Partha looked after the kitten well.
Q.6. Why was the black cat pleased with Patha's first wish?
Ans. The black cat was pleased with Partha's first wish because he had wished that the black cat would find a nice home and it was a kind and unselfish wish.

Ans. Partha changed after sometime. He stopped looking after the kitten and stopped playing with Mimi.

Ans. After waking up, Sarvesh lazily tapped the button of the alarm clock and switched it off. He thought of dozing off again but threw his quilt and sat up in bed because he remembered that they were going to the zoo. Then, Sarvesh scrambled out of his bed and raced downstairs in his pyjamas.

Ans. No, Sarvesh did not go downstairs slowly. He scrambled out of his bed and raced down the stairs in his pyjamas.

Ans. Sarvesh was wearing striped pyjamas.
Q.4. Why did Sarvesh's father say: ' people might mistake you for one of them!'?
Ans. Sarvesh's father said so because Sarvesh was wearing his striped pyjamas, which made him resemble a zebra.
Q.5. What did the family do first inside the zoo?
Ans. Inside the zoo, the excited children hopped around like monkeys and the whole family stood in a row in front of the four monkeys sitting on a log in a large caged area.
Q.6. What did Sarvesh tell his father about the monkeys?
Ans. Sarvesh told his father that the big monkey look like his father, as he was scratching his head just like his father did.
Q.7. What did Mrs Sridhar find odd about the monkeys?
Ans. Mrs Sridhar found it odd that the monkeys did what the humans did. She observed that they blindly copied every action of human beings.
Q.8. How did Mr Sridhar show that sometimes humans behave like monkeys?
Ans. In the car park, Mr Sridhar pointed to the sky and cried ' Oohh! Aaaaah!Wah wah!.' Soon, there was a crowd, and some people even imitated him. There was nothing to see in the sky in reality, but the people wear copying him just like monkeys. This is how Mr Sridhar showed that humans sometimes behave like monkeys.

1. Was the creature an elephant?
Ans :No, the creature was not an elephant but an 'odd animal'.
2. What kind of trunk did it have?
Ans : It had a bright blue trunk.
3. Which animals do you know that have a trunk?
Ans : Animals that have a trunk are the Asian elephant, the African bush elephant and the African forest elephant. Tapirs have a short trunk but it is actually an extended nose and upper lip.
4. What kind of legs did the creature have?
Ans : The creature had four purple legs.
5. Was it a bird?
Ans : It was not a bird although it did have feathers.
6. What was odd about the nails?
Ans : The creature had five nails on each toe and they were covered in hair.
7. Do you think the animal is real?
Ans : Although even now we hear of new species being discovered from time to time, the creature mentioned in the poem does not seem to be real but a product of the poet's imagination.

Ans : Mrs Smith got cross because Mr Smith had forgotten to bring her toast. She did not remember that she had never asked for it in the first place.

Ans : The boy was called Chocko because he loved chocolate and munched bars all the time.
2. What did Chocko's dad give him every week?
Ans : Chocko's dad gave him some pocket money every week and called it 'pocko' to rhyme with the boy's name.
3. Did Chocko's mother worry about him? How do we know?
Ans : Yes, Chocko's mother was worried about him. She had a difficult time trying to make him stop eating chocolates. We know this because every day she told him things like, 'You will become a chocolate', 'what will the dentist say?' and 'Just look at the state of your teeth!'
4. Did Chocko want to stop eating so much chocolate?
Ans : Yes, Chocko wanted to stop eating so much chocolate. He was not happy because every time he looked in the mirror, he got a shock seeing the terrible condition of his teeth. He knew he must stop, but did not know how.
5. What did Chocko see in his room one night?
Ans : One night, Chocko saw a little man in his room. He was no bigger than Chocko's hand and was wearing a very large purple turban. He bowed, danced about and then told Chocko that in his land everybody was made small. He showed Chocko a few magic beads and said that every time Chocko ate chocolate, one would disappear. When all the beads were gone, he would come and take Chocko away to his land.
6. What did he find on his bedside table?
Ans: Chocko found ten beads on his bedside table.
7. What did Chocko tell his dad?
Ans : Chocko told his dad to put his 'pocko' in the bank for him and said that he would not buy any chocolate with his pocket money then.
8. How do you think the puppet got on the rubbish heap?
Ans : Probably, Chocko's father had thrown the glove puppet on the rubbish heap because it was no longer needed as Chocko had stopped eating chocolate.

1. What did Vinay promise, and to whom?
Ans : Vinay promised Geeta that he would teach her to fly kites.
2. How do we know Geeta lived next door to Vinay?
Ans: Geeta only had to climb over the wall to come to Vinay's house. This is how we know that she lived next door to Vinay.
3. What did Vinay teach Geeta about kite flying?
Ans : Vinay taught Geeta how to hold the string, how to slide it through her fingers and not get cut. He also taught her how to give the kite a sharp pull and make it climb.
4. Why did the other kite look like a monster?
Ans : The other kite was black in colour and had red eyes that made it look like a monster.
5. What happened to the monster?
Ans : Geeta tugged hard and cut the string of the black kite with the string of her green kite and the monster began to float away, tumbling, falling and dropping.
6. What made Geeta feel good? How did she feel?
Ans : Vinay told Geeta that she and her green kind had won the fight and handed over the winning kite to her. Geeta felt like a princess with a new crown.

Ans : Perumal planted the twig. The twig grew into a big tree and had mangoes and guavas respectively, on every alternate day.

Ans : The captain of the ship and Rafu heard Perumal's story.
6. Why did the captain groan?
Ans : The captain of the ship groaned because he had lost his ship to Perumal.
7. Was Rafu wicked? In what ways?
Ans : Yes, Rafu was very wicked. He heard Perumal telling the captain of the ship about the snake. Then, he used this information to trick Perumal and get the tree and Perumal's house for himself.
8. What did Perumal do with the few gold coins he had left?
Ans : Perumal bought some goats and a small house with the few gold coins which were left with him.
9. How did Perumal get his house back?
Ans : The snake gave Perumal a diamond and asked him to show it to Rafu. In his greed for more riches, Rafu agreed to the bet placed by Perumal. After that, the tree gave mangoes for two days, and Rafu lost the bet.He then returned the house and the tree to Perumal.

Ans : It seems that the cow cannot stray because she is in a meadow which is probably fenced. She is after all a milking cow and will therefore be looked after by a farmer.

Ans : One day, Geeta saw a car stopping by and people getting out of it. As they entered a restaurant, Geeta saw that a little girl was looking at her. Geeta looked through the window of the restaurant and saw people having fun and eating ice cream, biscuits and cake. She also saw the little girl cutting the cake.
2. Who went into the restaurant? Why?
Ans : The people who got out of the car went into a restaurant. A little girl was among them. They went there for a birthday party. When Geeta looked through the window of the restaurant, she saw that the little girl was cutting the cake while the others were singing.
3. What did the people eat at the party?
Ans : The people ate Ice cream, biscuits and cake at the party.
4. Who gave Geeta some cake and biscuits?
Ans : The little girl, whose birthday it was, gave some cake and biscuits to Geeta.
5. What did Geeta do the next morning?
Ans : The next morning Geeta went outside a school and sold the biscuits to a schoolgirl.
6. What happened ten years later?
Ans : Ten years later, Geeta started a business by selling her own biscuits.
